Gaia finished up his piece on the corner of Rowland and Main St. today. You might recognize this wall from an earlier post during the RMP that showed an outline that had been started by local tattoo artist Jesse Smith. Because of problems with the lift and some other administrative issues, Jesse was not able to finish in the window of time he had allotted for his mural so the wall was passed on to Gaia. He produced a very Richmond-esque piece that features a monument labeled “Smith" for Captain John Smith holding a ship. Smith was a British soldier who “left his mark" on the Jamestown region of Virginia and was the beneficiary of the generous actions of Pocohontas and other indigenous peoples of the area. The James River is rising over the landscape in front of the monument and provides a stark contrast to most of RVA’s monuments which look out over the lush greenery of Monument Avenue or the Richmond Capitol building.view more

Martin Ayres now hands over to his colleague Neil Thompson at Jaguar for Tour de France 2013. Neil has worked at Jaguar for a similar time as Martin, but feels less inclined to name a number! On 15 June 2013, two Saudi women’s rights activists, Wajeha Al-Huwaider and Fawzia Al-Oyouni, were sentenced by the District Court in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia to 10 months in prison and banned from travelling outside of the country for two years following completion of their prison terms.

In 2011, Wajeha and Fawzia responded to a plea for help from Nathalie Morin, a Canadian woman. They received a text message saying that Nathalie and her children were locked in her house and in need of food. Upon arriving close to Nathalie’s home, they were confronted by police and arrested. PRETTY PEACH AND APPLE GREEN WEDDING INSPIRATION

Their DIY garden wedding at Bignor Park was such a beautiful, creative and personal affair filled with love, laughter, marryoke* and utterly fabulous florals.

Including big, fluffy, hydrangea bouquets, hanging jars of ‘freshly picked’ arrangements suspended above the reception tables, pure white roses threaded through a side swept braided hairstyle and Jo’s exquisite Claire Pettibone wedding gown in full bloom.

As I was reading Jo’s lovely (and super detailed) write up of their day I found myself smiling, laughing and tearing up a little.

Sorry for missing a couple of days worth of wedding loveliness last week – I’m actually writing this post from Miami, USA – the first stop on some rather exciting travels ahead over the next year!

Truth be told, things got a little crazy the last couple of weeks – what with packing up our rented London flat, saying goodbye (again) to friends and family, and Rufus!!! then heading to Amsterdamfor a week for Zee’s business, heading back to London for ‘one night only’, then straight onto a 10 hour flight – that turned into 13. And finally arriving in Florida to torrential rain and an apartment with the worst wifi connection EVER.*
